Here are the consequences of sanctions: the Russian car market has collapsed to a minimum in 15 years

According to the experts of the agency “Avstostat”, in March of this year, the market for new cars in Russia showed one of the lowest in the history of observations.

In the first month of spring, Russians purchased 78.9 thousand new cars, which turned out to be 43% less than in March 2021. Since March 2007, that is, over the past 15 years, there have never been such low values in the first month of spring.

If we evaluate the statistics not only for March, then there were even sadder months in history (January 2017, January and February 2010, April and May 2020). In April 2020, the “bottom” of the Russian car market was recorded, when only 54.5 thousand new passenger cars were sold. Then the regime of self-isolation began against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic.

Here are the consequences of sanctions: the Russian car market has collapsed to a minimum in 15 years

Today’s figure is explained by the consequences of the military special operation in Ukraine, which caused sanctions, the suspension of the supply of cars and spare parts, a sharp rise in prices and other unpleasant consequences.

The record month was recorded in December 2014, when almost 280 thousand cars were sold.
