THE Starliner spacecraft from Boeing, will return from the International Space Station (ISS) to Earth next Friday (6). The start of the return trip is scheduled for 7 pm (Brasília time) and the undocking will be broadcast live on NASA’s website (United States Space Agency).
The vehicle is expected to land on Saturday (7) at 1:03 am (Brasília time) at the White Sands Spaceport, in the US state of New Mexico. The astronauts who traveled aboard the capsule will remain on the ISS as the transport was not considered safe enough for a manned trip.
As Starliner, which launched on March 3, 2024, approached the orbiting laboratory, NASA and Boeing identified helium leaks and problems with the spacecraft’s thrusters.
For the safety of astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, the space agency announced on August 24 that Starliner will return to Earth without the crew.
They will make the return trip in February 2025 in a SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule, a product of Elon Musk’s company — which has an agreement with the agency to provide commercial transportation to the ISS.
