The American singer Katy Perry 39, spoke for the first time about collaborating with the producer Dr. Luke — accused of sexual abuse by fellow singer Kesha — on their new studio album, the “143” .
Katy Perry was approached about the subject on the American podcast Call Her Daddy, hosted by Alex Cooper. Dr. Luke is credited in “Woman’s World” the first single from the new album, which was released in early July this year. The fact has raised controversy since then, as the artist is involved in a criminal accusation.
During her appearance on the podcast, the singer reflected on overcoming past relationships with narcissistic men who couldn’t handle her becoming a star. At one point, she was asked about working with the producer. It’s unclear whether he’s in charge of other songs on “143.”
“I understand that this started a lot of conversations and he was one of the many collaborators that I collaborated with,” she began. “But the reality is that this comes from me. The truth is that I wrote these songs from my experience, going through a metamorphosis, and he was one of the people who helped facilitate all of that.”
She then mentioned the production of “Woman’s World”, a song that talks about female empowerment.
“I’m speaking from my own experience. When I talk about ‘Woman’s World,’ I’m talking about feeling so empowered now, as a mother, as a woman… I created all of this with a lot of different collaborators, people I’ve collaborated with in the past, from the ‘Teenage Dream’ era. All of that,” she said.
Dr. Luke has been featured in other Katy Perry songs, such as the hits “I Kissed a Girl” and “California Gurls”.
Dr. Luke is accused of sexual, physical, verbal and emotional abuse in 2014 by Kesha. He has always denied all allegations and has never been convicted in court: both reached a plea agreement in 2023.
