Peruvian police reported on Tuesday (14) that 13 people died in an accident on a highway in the country, the latest fatal incident in a place where such incidents are common.
The accident involving a vehicle belonging to transport company Interprovincial Civa occurred at 6:30 a.m. (8:30 a.m. Brasília time) near Vinchos as the bus was traveling from the capital Lima to Ayachucho, local authorities said in a statement.
Authorities initially said 14 people were injured, but police colonel Jhonny Valderrama later told Canal N television that the number was at least 18.
Seven ambulances were sent to the scene, as well as about two dozen health workers, Ayacucho district authorities said, adding that the injured were taken to three different hospitals for treatment.
