Home buying and selling accelerated its recovery at the end of the summer and is approaching the pre-lockdown sales level. The number of transactions in September reached 37,839 operations, a figure higher than the 34,806 registered in March, when the state of alarm was decreed and activity was paralyzed throughout the country.
With the end of spring came the de-escalation and since then, the sale of houses has progressively resumed its activity. Demand and interest in buying a house has skyrocketed After the confinement and this has caused that for the third consecutive month, the number of transactions exceeds the 30,000 barrier.
The September figure is 20.5% more than that of August, although it is still 1.1% lower than a year ago, according to the Statistics on Transfers of Property Rights (ETDP) published this Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (OTHER).
However, the balance is still below the 44,104 sales that closed in February, when the market was operating normally and oblivious to the coronavirus that was already wreaking havoc in China.
“The September data is very close to the 40,000 homes signed and it is a very hopeful figure since it indicates that, for the moment, the demand for housing has awakened strongly and the slight fall [interanual] that month can make us think that soon we can begin to collect positive data in this statistic “, he explains Anaïs López, Communications Director of Fotocasa.
The real estate portal highlights the dynamism they have observed in the sector since the end of the restrictions in May. “Since the end of the state of alarm we had historical data on both traffic and contacts and it indicated the great awakening that the demand for housing had had. We have never had so many people interested in changing their house,” adds AnaÃs Lopez.
So far this year, the sales figure is still 22.1% lower than in the same period in 2019.
