How does the Sun affect the Earth? NASA shows initial study results

The solar eclipse that hit Earth in April 2024 led NASA scientists to begin a study on the impact of the phenomenon and that of the Sun on the planet. The United States space agency shared the initial results on Tuesday (10).

One of the research leaders stated that the group of 800 students involved in the project has already collected a lot of “valuable data” – despite the challenges. More than 47 thousand images have been collected of the star.

According to initial results, eclipses can generate ripples in the atmosphere . Just as waves form in a lake when the water is disturbed, these waves also form in the atmosphere when the air is disturbed, NASA explained in a statement.

Scientists believe the trigger for these waves is a “hiccup” in the tropopause, a layer in Earth’s atmosphere, similar to an atmospheric effect that is observed during sunset.
