How is the cast of “Matrix” doing 25 years after its premiere?

One of the greatest classics of science fiction cinema, “The Matrix” turns 25 of its debut in 2024.

The franchise has four films and a fifth in development, but it was the original trilogy, directed by sisters Lana and Lilly Wachowski, that won the hearts of the public.

The first film, from 1999, stars Keanu Reeves , Laurence Fishburne , Hugo Weaving and Carrie Anne Moss . The plot follows Neo (Reeves), a computer hacker who is summoned to join a cyber-intelligence rebellion after discovering that humanity is trapped inside a simulated reality.

The film grossed over $467 million at the time and won four Oscars. Over the course of those 25 years, it grossed over $2 billion worldwide.

How are the “Matrix” actors doing after 25 years?

Keanu Reeves (Neo)

Keanu Reeves recently stated that “The Matrix” changed his life. Indeed, before the production he had already acted in other films, such as “Dangerous Liaisons” (1988) and “Speed” (1994), but it was in the production by the Wachowski sisters that he achieved greater success. After that, he also starred in another great action franchise: “John Wick”.

Currently 59 years old, the actor continues to participate in new film releases and has been in a relationship with visual artist Alexandra Grant since 2022.

Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity)

Before “The Matrix,” she didn’t have a very impressive career as an actress. She recently made her debut in the series “Star Wars: The Acolyte” and before that she also appeared in the series “Jessica Jones.”

Moss is 56 years old and has been married since 1999 to fellow actor Steven Roy and has three teenage children.

Laurence Fishburne (Morpheus)

Even before “The Matrix,” Fishburne, 63, had already had some notable film roles and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor for the biopic “Tina – The True Story of Tina Turner” (1993).

After his success as Morpheus, he joined the cast of “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” and returned to act alongside Keanu Reeves in the “John Wick” franchise. More recently, Fishburne was in “Black-ish” and has been confirmed for the new season of “The Witcher”.

Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith)

After his role as Agent Smith in “The Matrix”, the Australian actor became known in Hollywood and played roles such as Elrond in the “Lord of the Rings” saga, the protagonist V in “V for Vendetta”, Red Skull in “Captain America: The First Avenger” and others.

Now 64, Weaving stars in the series “Slow Horses.”
