Huawei Mate 50 smartphones received an advanced XMAGE camera and support for satellite communications

Ahead of Apple’s presentation of the iPhone 14 series smartphones, Huawei decided to present its flagship Mate 50 line, which includes the Mate 50E, Mate 50, Mate 50 Pro and Mate 50 RS Porsche Design models. The main features of the new series of smartphones are support for proprietary XMAGE image processing technology, heavy-duty Kunlun glass, Super Space Storage data compression technology, which can significantly save space on the device, and the HarmonyOS 3.0 operating system.

Huawei Mate 50 Pro

It is worth dwelling on this model in more detail, since it is the leading one in the entire series. Mate 50 Pro, in fact, like all other representatives of this series, was equipped with a special protected Kunlun glass, which is 10 times more resistant to falls. According to the company, it is made as a result of a 24-hour melting process at a temperature of 1600 degrees. Such glass contains hundreds of billions of high-strength nanocrystals that resist impact and cracking. For the first time in the industry, the Mate 50 series received a certificate from the Swiss company SGS, which provides services for independent examination, control, testing of products for various safety and quality indicators.

The device received improved protection according to the IP68 standard, that is, the smartphone is not only able to prevent the ingress of water and dust, it can be immersed in water to a depth of 6 meters. The device is built on Qualcomm’s top-end single-chip system to date – Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. The Mate 50 Pro uses a curved 6.74-inch OLED screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a PWM frequency of 1440 Hz. Supports HDR / HDR Vivid and face unlock.

The main camera is represented by three modules: the main one with a resolution of 50 megapixels, variable aperture, optical image stabilization, proximity sensor and laser focus sensor; a secondary 13MP sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens capable of macro shooting and another 64MP periscope-type sensor with 3.5x optical zoom and 200x digital zoom. On the front is a 13MP vari-angle camera (78-100°) as well as a 3D ToF camera.

The Mate 50 Pro supports 66W fast charging, 50W wireless charging, and 7.5W reverse wireless charging. There is also a so-called emergency mode, which allows you to pre-accumulate the accumulated energy and extend the operation of the device for another 3 hours when the battery is completely discharged.

Huawei Mate 50, Mate 50E And Mate 50 RS Porsche Design

In general, technically, the entire series is equipped with approximately the same, with the exception of some points or functions that relate to the screen, battery, additional camera module, and so on. So, for example, the basic version of Huawei Mate 50 has a lower screen refresh rate, battery capacity, a camera with a telephoto lens, and the Mate 50E, in addition to this, instead of the flagship one, received a mid-range Snapdragon 778G 4G chipset.

Separately, it is worth highlighting the premium model Mate 50 RS Porsche Design, which is a slightly modified version of the Mate 50 Pro. There are two main differences: design (ceramic body with CeraBicolor two-tone painting technology, diamond-shaped rear camera style) and a 48-megapixel sensor instead of a periscope with super macro function. In addition, the smartphone is slightly heavier and thicker than its counterparts.
