The main reservoirs of hydroelectric plants in Brazil, located in the Southeast/Central-West subsystem, will reach 39.9% of capacity by the end of October, the National Electric System Operator (ONS) estimated this Friday, in its first forecast for the next month.
Storage at hydroelectric plants in the region is expected to fall by almost 7 percentage points throughout October, the ONS pointed out, amid the severe drought in the country and forecasts that rain will only gain consistency in the second half of the month.
According to the ONS scenario, inflows are expected to be below the historical average in all subsystems of the country in October, with estimates of 43% of the average in the Southeast/Central-West, 86% in the South, 33% in the Northeast and 38% in the North .
For the national electricity load, the operator estimated a growth of 4.7% compared to October 2023, to just over 82 thousand average megawatts.
