Hyundai announces air taxi network in Seoul

Hyundai Motor has announced that the company has partnered with the capital of South Korea, Seoul. The company will create an “urban air mobility ecosystem” or air taxi network. The new transportation system will be commercialized by 2028.

The automaker says the Urban Air Mobility (UAM) ecosystem will begin with a concept of air taxi boarding stations called Vertiport. The head of the company announced that Hyundai Motor has 37 manufacturing plants in 10 countries. He also spoke about the development of technologies in the field of electric and hydrogen fuel.

In 2019, the South Korean giant hired Dr. Shin Jai-won, who previously worked at NASA in the United States. The company also plans to open a branch in Washington, DC that will handle air taxis.

The company has previously been in talks with Los Angeles officials about the Urban Air Mobility ecosystem and is set to showcase a Vertiport prototype in the UK later this year. As for Seoul, it will be possible to fly up to 70 km from Gimpo International Airport by taking an air taxi.

Hyundai is committed to offering a safe, quiet, economical and consumer-oriented air taxi service.
