Almost all of the approximately 2.5 tonnes of enriched uranium ore (UOC) that had recently been lost from a storage area in Libya was located at this location, announced International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in a letter to its member countries.
Last week the military forces that control the east Libya announced that the uranium barrels had been located near the warehouse from which they had been removed, in southern Libya. IAEA inspectors surveyed the site and found that only “a relatively small amount” of uranium was still missing, according to the confidential report of the Organization to its members.
The IAEA also assures that there is no immediate risk of radiation leakage in the area and that it is working with Libya to help it improve its national nuclear material control system.
