Márcio da Rocha Souza, father of the boy Ian, who was killed at the age of two, was convicted of the crime of double homicide, for a base motive and against a minor under 14 years of age. He was sentenced to 26 years and 8 months in prison.
The boy’s stepmother, Bruna Cristine dos Santos, was sentenced to 35 years, for quadruple homicide, for gross motives, use of cruel means, with an appeal that made it difficult to defend the victim and against children under 14 years of age.
The convictions took place in the early hours of Thursday (12) during the trial of the case. Judge Michel Curi e Silva, from the 1st Jury Court of Belo Horizonte, was the one who signed the sentence.
Both have been in prison since January 2023, when the crime occurred.
The child’s father is imprisoned at the Inspector José Martinho Drumond Penitentiary, in Ribeirão das Neves, metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte. The stepmother is in the Vespasiano Prison, also in Greater BH.
During the trial, Márcio cried and denied all the accusations, stating that he always treated his son with love. He also said that he was not aware of any details of the attack and that he only found out about the child’s multiple skull fractures from doctors at the hospital.
The crime
Ian Henrique de Almeida Rocha, two years old, died of head trauma in January 2023.
He was admitted to João XXIII Hospital on January 8th and was later transferred to Risoleta Neves Hospital, with a deep head wound, as well as abrasions on his chin and swelling on his forehead.
The doctors who treated the child were suspicious of the arguments presented by those responsible, who claimed that the pressure cooker exploded in the house, hitting the child.
The Military Police were called and then the Civil Police began investigations.
Ian died two days after admission.
The parents were arrested red-handed. Subsequently, the Court converted the arrests into temporary and then into preventive.
On February 13th of last year, the police reconstructed the crime and on March 2nd, the investigation concluded that the father and stepmother were responsible for the boy’s death. The stepmother was responsible for the blow to the head and the father was oblivious to the situation.
