IGP-DI accelerates high in May with boost from commodities and fuels, says FGV

Agricultural commodity and fuel prices pressured and the General Domestic Availability Price Index (IGP-DI) accelerated to 0.69% in May, after rising 0.41% in April, according to data released on Wednesday. Friday (8) by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV).

The result for the month was below expectations in a Reuters poll, up 0.79%, and led the index to accumulate in the 12 months through May up 10.56%.

The Broad Producer Price Index (IPA-DI), which accounts for 60% of the general indicator, rose 0.55% in May, above the rate of 0.19% in the previous month.

“Large agricultural commodities and fuels accounted for an important share of the IPA result, the highlights being: diesel (from 6.87% to 6.38%), soybeans (from -8.02% to 2.76%) and sugarcane. of sugar (from 0.66% to 3.65%)”, said André Braz, coordinator of price indices, in a note.

The advance of the Consumer Price Index (IPC) — which accounts for 30% of the IGP-DI — weakened to 0.50% in the period, from 1.08% in April.

According to the FGV, six of the eight classes of expense components of the CPI registered a decrease in their rates of change, with emphasis on Food (from 1.58% to 0.45%), Transport (2.13% to 1.02 %) and Housing (-0.69% to -1.37%).

The rise in the National Construction Cost Index (INCC), in turn, accelerated to 2.28% in May, from 0.95% in April.

The IGP-DI calculates producer, consumer and civil construction prices between the 1st and the last day of the reference month.
