Illegal mining in Amazonas, pandemic advances in Germany and life expectancy of Brazilians are among the highlights of the 5 late facts this Thursday, November 25, 2021.
Inflation preview
Pulled once again by the rise in gasoline, the Extended National Consumer Price Index (IPCA-15), which is a preview of the country’s official inflation, stood at 1.17% in November, after recording a rate of 1.20 % in October. This is what the data released today by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) reveals.
pandemic in germany
Germany became the 13th country to surpass 100,000 deaths by Covid-19 and this Thursday registered a new daily record of cases. The country is facing its most intense wave of the pandemic, but so far the number of new deaths has not kept pace with the spike in cases due to vaccination.
Pfizer’s Vaccine for Children
The European Medicines Agency has approved Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine for children aged between 5 and 11 years. The decision could help speed up immunization against the virus as the pandemic advances in Europe.
Illegal mining in AM
In Amazonas, miners invaded the Madeira River with hundreds of dredgers and barges to illegally mine gold. At least 15 days ago, they settled in the region and formed a kind of “floating village” for the activity. The presence of miners is nothing new in the region. However, the large number of dredgers and rafts operating in the same stretch drew attention. The Federal Public Ministry (MPF) asked that federal state agencies take emergency repressive measures.
Life expectancy
Life expectancy at birth for Brazilians was 76.8 years in 2020, according to data published today by the IBGE. Expectations grew (2 months more compared to 2019), but the survey did not take the pandemic into account.
