In addition to Taylor Swift, see artists who had shows canceled due to the weather

A few hours before the second show of “The Eras Tour” in Rio de Janeiro, singer Taylor Swift informed fans that the event would be postponed until next Monday (20). The decision was motivated by the extreme temperatures in the capital of Rio de Janeiro. The night before, a fan died after falling ill inside the Engenhão stadium.

In addition to Taylor, artists with performances scheduled for this weekend also had to cancel or close their events.

Marisa Monte

Singer Marisa Monte was going to perform in Niterói (RJ), on Saturday night (18), but the stage set up for the performance collapsed during a storm. According to the city council, strong winds and a lightning storm caused the collapse of the structure, which was set up on Icaraí Beach.

Still according to the city hall, when the winds started, the place was evacuated and there was no one around when the structure gave way. A video circulating on social media shows the storm.

In a post on social media, the artist thanked her fans for their support. “Fortunately, everyone is fine. Thank you for your concern”, wrote the singer.

The show was part of the program celebrating 450 years of Niterói. In addition to Marisa Monte’s presentation, the appearances of the bands Barão Vermelho, Detonautas and singer Biafra, which were scheduled to take place on Sunday night (19), were also postponed.

Samuel Rosa

Musician Samuel Rosa, former member of the group Skank, was the closing attraction of a car event that took place on Saturday (18), at the Autódromo de Interlagos, in the South Zone of São Paulo.

The performance started around 9pm, but had to be interrupted when a storm accompanied by lightning and wind hit the place. Those present left the racetrack and there were no reports of injuries.

Responding to a request from the Government of São Paulo, the city of São Paulo canceled the events that would take place in open spaces this weekend. The measure does not extend to private events, as is the case with Samuel.

The samba singer Péricles was expected as the main attraction of the Black Art Festival, which would take place on the 18th, 19th and 20th of November in open spaces in São Bernardo do Campo (SP), organized by the municipality’s city hall in celebration of the date of Consciousness Black.

The postponement of the show was announced last Thursday (16), after the São Paulo Civil Defense issued a warning for storms with strong gusts of wind this weekend.

In a note sent to the press, the city council informed that it is studying a new date for the event. “The postponement is to ensure everyone’s safety. The City Hall remains committed to holding the event in celebration of Black Consciousness Month on another date”, says the statement.
