X5 Retail Group, the owner of the Perekrestok and Pyaterochka supermarket chains, together with SberBank and the international payment system Visa, announced the launch of an interesting project – a “pay by glance” service at self-service cash desks.

At the moment, biometric authentication has appeared at self-service checkouts in 52 Perekrestok supermarkets in Moscow. It is planned that by the end of March the new payment method will appear in 150 Perekrestok supermarkets, and in April – in several Pyaterochka stores in the capital.

As the developers promise, using the new technology, it will be possible to pay for goods in a couple of seconds: you just need to look at the camera installed at the checkout. In this case, neither a card nor a smartphone is needed.

You can activate the function in the SberBank Online application. In the “Cards” or “Profile” section, you need to select the “Pay at a glance” item and indicate the card from which funds will be debited upon payment.

Kirill Tsarev, Deputy Chairman of the Board and Head of the Retail Business Unit of Sberbank, noted:
In 2020, we launched this technology for the first time in a chain of Moscow coffee houses. And today’s launch of the project in one of the largest retail chains in the country shows that our desire to develop innovative payment methods is supported by our partners, who are no less interested in their implementation than we are. To use the service, you do not need cash, a bank card, or even a smartphone – is it enough? To present? your face, and the payment will take place. “
