Inflation in the city of SP rises 0.63% in January, shows IPC-Fipe

The Consumer Price Index (IPC), which measures inflation in the city of São Paulo, rose 0.63% in January, accelerating in relation to the advance of 0.54% in December, but losing strength against the gain of 0. 69% observed in the third quadrissemana of last month, according to data published this Thursday (2) by the Economic Research Institute Foundation (Fipe).

The January result was within the estimates of market institutions consulted by the Broadcast projectionsfrom increases of 0.53% to 0.76%, but below the median of 0.71%.

In the 12 months through January, the IPC-Fipe accumulated inflation of 7.20%, compared to 7.32% at the end of 2022.

In the first month of 2023, three of the seven components of the IPC-Fipe gained strength: Housing (from 0.05% in December to 0.68% in January), Transport (from 0.04% to 0.77%) and Education (from 0.13% to 5.57%).

On the other hand, there was cooling in the Food categories (from 1.07% in December to 0.36% in January), Personal Expenses (from 0.75% to -0.45%), Health (from 1.14% to 0.49%) and Apparel (from 1.18% to 1.04%).
