The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a warning for the risk of intense rain in most of Brazil this Sunday (19).
For 13 states in the country, an orange danger alert was issued with the possibility of power cuts, flooding, falling trees and electrical discharges.
The states on alert until 10am on Sunday (19) are:
- Amapá
- Amazon
- Goiás
- Maranhão
- Mato Grosso
- Mato Grosso do Sul
- Minas Gerais, Pará
- Paraíba
- Paraná
- Rondônia
- Santa Catarina
- São Paulo
- Tocantins
In these states, according to Inmet, there may be rainfall accumulations of up to 100mm per day. Winds can vary between 60 and 100km/h.
The agency’s guidance, in case of gusty winds, is not to take shelter under trees and not to park vehicles near transmission towers and advertising signs.
In Rio Grande do Sul and part of Santa Catarina, the alert is for the risk of storms. The forecast indicates rain of up to 50mm on the day, with winds of up to 60km/h and the possibility of hail.
In seven other states and the Federal District, there is a potential danger of rain, they are:
- Acre
- Bahia
- Ceará
- Paraíba
- Piauí
- Rio de Janeiro
The alert is also valid until 10am on Sunday (19), and it may rain up to 50mm on the day.
