“Inside Out,” “Frozen” and more: see the most successful animations in cinema

Since it hit theaters in the second half of June, “Inside Out 2” broke several records. The title became the highest-grossing animated film in cinema history, grossing US$1.6 billion (around R$9.3 billion) – to date.

Animations are increasingly attracting people to the cinema. Ten titles have already grossed US$1 billion – all of them released since 2010.

Last year, one of the biggest releases of the year was a film in this genre: “Super Mario Bros. The Movie“ which currently ranks third in the animation box office. See below the 10 highest-grossing animation films of all time.

  4. Frozen (2013) – US$ 1.28 billion (approximately R$ 6.84 billion)
  5. The Incredibles 2 (2018) – US$ 1.24 billion (approximately R$ 6.68 billion)
  6. Minions (2015) US$1.15 billion (about 6.45 billion)
  7. Toy Story 4 (2019) – US$ 1.07 billion (approximately R$ 6 billion)
  8. Toy Story 3 (2010) – US$ 1.06 billion (approximately R$ 5.95 billion)
  9. Despicable Me 3 (2017) – US$ 1.03 billion (approximately R$ 5.77 billion)
  10. Finding Dory (2016) – US$ 1.02 billion (approximately R$ 5.72 billion)
