Intel introduced the world’s fastest mobile processor: 5.6 GHz and 24 cores

A few days ago, news from insiders appeared on the Internet that Intel was preparing an insanely productive 13th generation mobile processor for the announcement, and today, January 3, the company confirmed these rumors. Blue team employees have announced a flagship chip called the Core i9-13980HX, which boasts 24 cores, a clock speed of 5.6 GHz and desktop processor-level performance. Intel emphasized that this is the first laptop processor built on a 24-core configuration, plus it is the fastest mobile processor in the world.

Surprisingly, the manufacturer has managed to pack eight performance and sixteen power-efficient cores into a system-on-a-chip that draws just 55W. Of course, this is only nominal power consumption, so laptops with this processor actually need a very powerful cooling system, but the performance is clearly worth it. In single-threaded mode, the new chip is 11% faster than the previous generation, and in multithreaded mode, performance is 49% higher – this is a huge increase from generation to generation. Naturally, the new product supports DDR4 and DDR5 (up to 128 GB of RAM), Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2 and Thunderbolt 4, and the largest manufacturers (Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo, MSI, ASUS and Razer) have already announced their readiness to soon release on market 60 laptops based on this chip.

In addition, less productive solutions with lower power consumption were presented, which also attract attention. For example, the company introduced the 13th generation H-series processors, which boast a rated TDP of 45W with high clock speeds and configurations up to 14 cores and 20 threads. For laptops that do not require such impressive performance, the P and U lines are presented – with a power consumption of 28 W and 15 W, respectively. Intel noted that although these processors are considered energy efficient, they are still quite productive and will soon present a lot of new products based on them at CES 2023.

Even during the official presentation, Intel announced new processors for desktop systems – we are talking about the 13th generation of chips without the K index, which are designed to assemble more affordable gaming and work systems. In the “blue team” these processors are called an example of a balance between performance and energy efficiency – the new “stones” provide a performance increase of up to 11% and 34% in single-threaded and multi-threaded modes, respectively (compared to 12th generation counterparts). And against the backdrop of news that Intel has raised prices for productive processors of the current and past generations, new chips will be in demand.

There is good news for systems that do not pretend to be gaming monsters or workstations – Intel does not forget to update the Pentium and Celeron heirs. Recently, the manufacturer has abandoned these names, renaming the available chips to Intel Processor, and today the company officially introduced new models in these lines. For example, the Intel i3-N300 processor deserves attention – at 7 W it provides 8 processing cores and 8 threads at 3.8 GHz with support for DDR5 memory at up to 4800 MHz. Of course, without P-cores, you should not expect insane performance from these processors, but Intel still promises 28% more power than the previous generation models.
