Media at Iran report that Tehran bought from Russia the fighters Su-35, in the context of the military cooperation of the two countries, which has been developed especially after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.
Experts have long speculated that Iran wants to modernize its old technology Air Forcetaking Russian fighter jets. International sanctions against Tehran have so far prevented new acquisitions and modernization.
According to earlier reports, Iran was planning to buy at least 24 Russian fighter jets.
Tehran and Moscow have recently stressed that they also want to expand their military cooperation. Both countries are under heavy Western sanctions, with sanctions against Russia tightened over its invasion of Ukraine.
The West accuses the Islamic Republic of supplying Russia with Shahed-136 unmanned combat aircraft, also known as “kamikaze” drones, which the Russian military used in Ukraine. Tehran denies this charge.
