The commander of the Revolutionary Guard, an elite group of Will said this Saturday (6) that Israel may pay a heavy price for its latest attacks on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, Iranian state TV reported.
“The Israelis will pay yet another high price for their recent crime,” Major General Hossein Salami said, referring to Israeli air strikes in gaza while meeting with Islamic Jihad leader Ziad al-Nakhala, who is currently in Iran.
On Saturday, Israeli planes hit Gaza and Palestinians fired rockets at Israel after an Israeli operation against the militant group Islamic Jihad ended more than a year of relative calm along the border.
Islamic Jihad said in a statement that one of its top leaders, Tayseer Al Jabari, was killed in the attack.
He was commander of the Quds Brigade, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, according to the group, and a member of its Military Council.
The Palestinian Health Ministry said at least 10 people were killed, including a five-year-old girl and a 23-year-old woman. Another 55 were wounded, according to the ministry. Israel insists most of the dead were militants.
The Israeli army said the main focus of its military action was a pre-emptive air strike against Al Jabari, as well as attacks on two anti-tank squadrons that were on their way to carry out an attack on Israeli forces.
O Hamas , the militant group that controls Gaza, condemned the Israeli action. “The Israeli enemy, who started the escalation against Gaza and committed a new crime, must pay the price and take full responsibility for it,” said spokesman Fawzi Barhoum.
The attacks come after Israeli forces captured a senior Islamic Jihad commander, Bassam al-Saadi, during a Monday night raid on the occupied city of west bank from Jenin.
During that operation, a 17-year-old Palestinian linked to Islamic Jihad was shot dead in a clash with Israeli soldiers, according to the Israeli military. The Palestinian Health Ministry said the victim was shot in the head by Israeli forces.
