Iran: Tehran calls on West for more ‘realistic’ approach to its nuclear program

Iran today called on the United States and Europeans to take a “realistic” approach to negotiations on its nuclear program, which will resume in late November after a five-month hiatus.

“The rapid development of the talks obliges the European and American sides to adopt a realistic and constructive approach, avoiding the excessive demands that go beyond the terms of the 2015 nuclear agreement,” said Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir-Abdollah Abdolado. posted on his ministry website.

The Iranian foreign minister made the remarks during a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.

Negotiations between Tehran and the major powers had been “frozen” since June, to revive the historic 2015 agreement that would drastically reduce Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for a easing of economic sanctions against the country.

Iran and the European Union, a key mediator in those indirect talks between Washington and Tehran, also announced on Wednesday the date for the resumption of talks.

The remaining countries in the 2015 agreement (Iran, Germany, China, France, Britain, Russia) will meet under the chairmanship of European negotiator Enrique Mora, European diplomacy chief Josep Borrell said in a press release.

“If the US side fully returns to its obligations and makes no other demands, the Republic of Iran will fulfill all its obligations,” Amir-Abdollahian stressed.
