The 56-year-old is a member of Tehran’s allied organizations, such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah, and is the author of several articles on Iran’s foreign policy on the website of Iran’s supreme spiritual leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to Iranian media.

He is also among Iran’s envoys in talks with senior US officials on the security situation in Iraq, as part of a joint committee based in Baghdad.

Former Petroleum Minister Admiral Rostam Ghasemi, a former presidential candidate, has been appointed head of the Ministry of Transport.

The post of Interior Minister returns to Amir Vahidi, while that of Tourism Minister to Ezatullah Zargami, both former members of the Revolutionary Guards.
