How he managed to escape his male dominated regime Iran and to reach Greece, an Iranian refugee explains in an interview. “When I got on the plane, I immediately took off the headscarf» he emphasizes pointing out that she left to live free.
“I, who do not want to wear a headscarf, want respect from you and that you respect my opinion. I don’t like to wear a headscarf, you like to wear a headscarf, we are the same people, we have no difference” pointed out Iranian refugee Amena Namchuyan speaking to ERT.
Wanting to escape from oppression and injustice, 7 years ago, as she points out, she boarded a plane with her husband and children and came to Greece. In Lesbos she built her new life, with what she had been so deprived of.
“Because my father was a policeman, they were very strict and they kept telling me to put on these long, scarf, I don’t know what they call it here, but I kept reacting and I didn’t. Since I was little, I didn’t like the headscarf. As soon as I left Iran, I immediately took her out,” said the Iranian refugee.
“I felt proud of women who have a lot of courage”
Her anxiety for her family who is still in Iran states that it is great. But she hopes that social struggles will bear fruit and the male-dominated regime will be overthrown.
“I felt proud of the women who have a lot of courage and do such things and I like them to continue to get some result” she noted.
“Hopefully, I believe that if they continue like this they can get their rights and hopefully this will be done so that we can go to Iran comfortably too,” said Amena Namchuyan in closing.
