The armed wing of the radical Islamic Jihad group in Gaza said this Thursday (9) that it is prepared to release two Israeli hostages for humanitarian reasons.
One of them is a 77-year-old woman and the other is a 13-year-old boy – both appear in a video released by the group.
A CNN does not name the two hostages at this time, nor does it show the video, following a request from the families of the two hostages for their privacy to be respected at this time.
Israel Defense Forces spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari referenced the video at his daily press briefing this evening, saying: “We have not and will not miss any chance to get the hostages back.”
In a text statement, Abu Hamza, leader of Islamic Jihad’s military wing, said his group was prepared to release one hostage “for medical reasons” and another “for humanitarian reasons and because of his young age.”
Hamza did not detail the timing or circumstances under which the hostages might be released.
It is the first time that Islamic Jihad has released video confirmation that the group also holds Israeli hostages – and not just Hamas.
