Israel approves $ 317 million plan to develop Golan Heights

LAST UPDATE: 18:23

Israel’s cabinet has approved a $ 1 billion ($ 317 million) plan to develop the Golan Heights, according to Bloomberg.

The plan is to double the population in the Israeli-occupied part of the Golan Heights, Bennett said at the start of a special cabinet meeting there on Sunday.

About half of the funds will be spent on planning and housing, while the rest will be spent on improving the quality of life in the area, including improving transport and medical services.

The Trump administration has formally acknowledged Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights in 2019, deviating from a long-standing US policy. Israel occupied the area from Syria in the Middle East war in 1967 and later annexed it.
