Just $ 2 will cost each interception with one laser based air defense system where the Israel hopes to develop from next year to neutralize enemy missiles and unmanned aircraft, said today the Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.
Israel is currently dependent on anti-aircraft missile launch systems, which cost tens of thousands to millions of dollars, to deal with these air threats.
But the system Iron Beam (Iron Ray), a prototype of which was presented last year, uses, as reported by APE-MPE, laser to overheat and neutralize air threats.
Bennett predicted that he would enter service in early 2023.
«It’s something that changes the game, “Not only because we will hit the enemy army, but also because we will bankrupt it,” the Israeli prime minister said during a visit to the state-owned system maker, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.
Palestinian and Lebanese forces have fired thousands of rockets and mortar shells at Israel in previous wars, which in recent years have also intercepted drones believed to have been fired by Iranian-backed militants.
«To date, it costs us a lot of money to intercept every rocket. “Today (the enemy) can invest tens of thousands of dollars in a rocket and we will invest $ 2 in electricity to intercept that rocket,” said Bennett.
