Israel revokes visa of UN humanitarian coordinator, says minister

Israel revoked the visa of the United Nations humanitarian coordinator due to “UN prejudice”, according to the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs.

“We will no longer remain silent in the face of UN bias,” said Eli Cohen in an X post.

Cohen stressed that Lynn Hastings, who is deputy special coordinator for the Middle East peace process and UN resident coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territory, did not speak out against Hamas for the acts committed during the October 7 attack.

“Someone who did not condemn Hamas for the brutal massacre of 1,200 Israelis, the abduction of babies and the elderly, and the horrific acts of abuse and rape, and for using Gaza residents as human shields, but instead condemns Israel, a country democracy that protects its citizens, cannot serve in the UN and cannot enter Israel”, highlighted Cohen.

Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN secretary-general, said Hasting had his visa revoked last week. Still, Dujarric said that the UN secretary-general has “complete confidence” in the coordinator.

“I can only reiterate the Secretary-General’s complete confidence in Ms. Hastings, in the way she conducted herself and in the way she carried out her work,” Dujarric highlighted.
