Israel takes note of Washington's concerns about military operations in Rafah

Israel has “taken note” of Washington's “concerns” about the ground military operation in Rafah, a senior US official revealed yesterday. “The Israelis revised their plans. They took into account many of the concerns we had expressed,” he assured reporters. “This is an ongoing discussion” and it is “constructive,” he added, speaking on condition of anonymity. He was referring to discussions between White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan and top Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, over the weekend in Israel. “What counts is what is actually done” in the field, he added. “We don't greenlight Israeli operations—that's not our role,” he hastened to add. US President Joe Biden has publicly expressed his opposition to a full-scale ground attack on Rafah.
