Israel’s ambassador to Brazil, Daniel Zonshine, expressed deep regret over the deaths of Brazilian civilians in Lebanon, amid the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. In an interview with CNN Brazil This Friday (27), Zonshine specifically addressed the case of Ali Kamal Abdallah, a 15-year-old Brazilian teenager who lost his life along with his father in an attack on a cleaning products factory in the Becá Valley.
“We greatly regret the death of Ali and other people who are not involved in this conflict,” declared the ambassador, highlighting that Israel’s intention “is not to kill Lebanese, but to target Hezbollah’s activist activities and facilities.”
Conflict complexities and collateral damage
Zonshine explained that the reality of the war between Israel and Hezbollah inevitably involves people who are not part of the terrorist group. He highlighted that Israeli operations attempt to be “surgical”, targeting only Hezbollah facilities and members. However, it admitted that mistakes can occur, resulting in unwanted collateral damage.
The ambassador also mentioned the difficulty in distinguishing military targets from civilians, claiming that, in many cases, Hezbollah facilities are located inside homes. “The person who has four or five meter missiles in his house cannot say he didn’t know,” argued Zonshine.

The tragedy highlights the impact of the conflict on the significant Brazilian community residing in Lebanon.
