Israeli hostage killed during clash between Hamas and Israeli army

The armed wing of the Islamist Palestinian movement Hamas announced today that an Israeli soldier, held hostage in the Gaza Strip, was killed early this morning in a clash between her fighters and an Israeli special forces unit, which was carrying out a rescue operation.

The Al-Qassam Brigades said its fighters discovered the rescue operation and confronted the unit, which led to the death and injury of a number of Israeli soldiers participating in the operation, without specifying their number.

He also named the Israeli soldier hostage who was killed as 25-year-old Saar Baruch and also released his alleged ID number.

The Israel Defense Forces have not yet responded to a Reuters request for comment.

Israel rescued a soldier held in Gaza in late October and noted that it may conduct similar operations to rescue other hostages held by Hamas if possible.
