Italy: 12,877 cases and 90 deaths – First case of Omicron in Naples

The last 24 hours, in Italy 12,877 new cases of coronavirus were recorded and 90 people lost their lives. In total, 596,898 diagnostic tests were performed, 2.2% of which were positive.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, there are 4,982,022 incidents in the country, with 133,627 deaths. There are 624 patients with covid 19 in the intensive care units, while there are 4,826 in the hospital wards.

Meanwhile, an Italian citizen who flew back to Naples from Mozambique tested positive for the virus, as did his family of five.

The Italian Higher Institute of Health confirmed on Saturday afternoon that the case identified Omicron variant. According to the data so far, the state of health of him and his family is good.

In Milan, from today until the end of December, the use of a mask is again mandatory in all the streets of the center. The same measure is expected to apply soon in Rome, where it has already been decided that a limited number of citizens and tourists will have access to the main shopping streets and large squares of the city.
