One in two Italians decided to spend the 15th of August in a resort, even if it was a short “escape” from the big cities. Need to relax and have fun, despite the bad weather that hit the country, the last two days. According to a survey by the polling institute Ixè, for the agricultural association Coldiretti, many Italians prefer destinations a short distance from the area where they live permanently. At the same time, 24% of the respondents answered that they will “stay at home” while another 25% consider that “it is a day like any other”.
A quarter of those who decided to go on holiday chose abroad. Greece always remains in the first place of preferences. As for the internal destinations, there is an absolute dominance of the coastal areas, which attract 61% of all visitors, while the countryside with a series of national parks and the mountains follow, a short distance away. A breath of relief for the entrepreneurs of the Italian tourism sector, after the official data of July, showing a decrease in overnight stays.
14 million Italians on the road
Another survey carried out for the trade association Confesercenti shows that until the day after tomorrow there is almost absolute occupancy (91%) in rooms rented online, a percentage which reaches 96% at sea and 95% in the various Italian lakes. According to the latest data, from the 7th to the 21st of August, a total of 14 million Italians decided to move and go on vacation. For the whole of August they are expected to spend 11 billion euros.
Of course, there are also the “lonely types”, who prefer to stay in the small and big cities, to discover their beauties (such as, for example, the traditional district of Trastevere in Rome) without the great pressure and crowds of the rest of the year. And the eternal teenagers, (along with the real young people and teenagers) who are preparing tonight to eat, play music with big groups and spend the night, on countless beaches of the country, to be the first to see the sun of the Fifteenth of August.
