Italy: Accompanying the Democratic Party with the centrist party ‘Action’ in the elections

The center-left Democratic Party today formalized the electoral cooperation with the centrist party Azione (Action). Their participation in the elections of September 25 foresees that the nominations for the single-seat districts will be determined as follows: 70% of the candidates will belong to the Democrats and the remaining 30% to Azione.

At the same time, the agreement that was signed provides that the same ratio will be observed in terms of the television time of the two political forces. “This is a particularly important electoral alliance, in the context of a broader agreement that contains basic elements, with the aim of winning the confrontation with the right,” emphasized the secretary of the Democratic Party, Enrico Leta.

“It is unthinkable that our country, after the Draghi government, will pass into a phase in which Georgia Meloni can take over as prime minister,” added Leta.

“This agreement satisfies me and fully covers me, there is an important reference to the “Dragi agenda”. I think that today the match is reopened, because I do not think that the Italians wish to passively follow a proposal that puts them on the margins of Europe”, he emphasized from on his side the head of Azione Carlo Calenda. “We are solid and nothing has been decided yet. We have a match ahead of us and we will win it,” he added.

According to the polls, the Democratic Party gathers 23% of the vote intention and Azione 6%.
