Italy: We are in favor of cooperation with Greece and Spain to extend the tourist season

“We are in favor of developing cooperation with Greece and Spain with the aim of hosting tourists from countries outside Europe, but also to extend the duration of the tourist season,” Italian Tourism Minister Massimo Garavalia told APE-MPE.

“In this way, the duration of the tourist season could be increased. Our countries can receive visitors all year round, not only in summer, because Italy, Spain and Greece have a climate that allows them to “They attract tourists all year round. Consequently, there is a great, mutual interest in deepening the cooperation of our countries,” Garavalia added.

At the same time, the Italian Minister of Tourism, speaking to the members of the Union of Foreign Correspondents, referred to the great lack of seasonal staff in the field of tourism companies in his country. In more detail, Massimo Garavalia stressed:

“It is difficult to make an accurate estimate, but we can say that this year there is a shortage of up to 350,000 employees. The solution to the problem will have to be done on multiple levels and with a series of answers. ‘Immediately, the only way to address the issue , is to allow new flows of workers from abroad to fill the gap, but this is only a temporary solution. I remind you that unemployment is close to 10%, so something is wrong, so we must do what we can to help meet the supply and demand of labor, with the contribution of trade unions, our ministry and tourism business “.
