“It’s important to see the budget well applied”, says Pacheco after meeting with Fux

The president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), met this Wednesday (17) with the president of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Luiz Fux, and highlighted the importance of understanding between the Powers in relation to the public budget .

“Regardless of the procedural path, the understanding between the Powers is very important, the understanding by the Judiciary Power of exactly what is happening in the Legislative Power and in the Executive Power with regard to the public budget. It is in the public interest, of Brazilian society, to see the budget well applied, with the greatest possible level of transparency”, said Pacheco to the press as he left the meeting.

Pacheco stated that the meeting with Fux aims to understand how to find a way to reach a consensus on the issue of public budgeting.

“I also intend to visit the other ministers of the Supreme Court, especially Minister Rosa Weber, rapporteur for this matter. I would love to be with her so that we can debate and express the viewpoint of the National Congress in relation to this budget issue. The important thing is that we have the solution of all the Powers involved in a common objective, of having the application of resources in the four corners of the country”.

Payroll Exemption

The Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) of the Chamber approved this Wednesday (17) the bill that extends the exemption on the payroll of the 17 sectors that employ the most.

Still in the interview after a meeting with the president of the STF, Rodrigo Pacheco spoke about the importance of seeing the matter approved “as soon as possible”.

“It would even be natural to submit to one of the commissions, either the Economic Affairs Commission or the Justice Constitution Commission itself, but I believe there is an environment, there is a possibility for the steering committee to go directly to the plenary of the Federal Senate. I imagine that this could be a reasonable path, given the relevance of the matter and the importance of seeing it approved as soon as possible”, said the president of the Senate.

At the request of the government, the rapporteur, deputy Marcelo Freitas (PSL-MG), changed the original text and reduced the extension of the benefit that reduces the charge levied on salaries to two years instead of the five initially proposed. As it is conclusively underway, the initiative follows from the commission to the analysis of the Senate, without the need to go through the plenary of the Chamber.

“Incidentally, we are trying to set this tone in the Senate – despite the difficulties inherent to the pandemic – of having very quickly approval of the matters that interest Brazil, and one of them is the exemption from the payroll”, added Pacheco.
