Tesla founder Elon Musk should study the mining of the first cryptocurrency better, as it is much more environmentally friendly than people think. This was stated in an interview with Bloomberg by the CEO of the Kraken exchange Jesse Powell.
He acknowledged that there may be greener alternatives to bitcoin. But, in his opinion, people overestimate the harm of cryptocurrency to the environment.
Mining digital gold allows a lot of excess and wasted energy to be utilized, and is also driving the development of the renewable energy sector, Powell said.
“I don’t know how long Elon has been studying mining, but I hope he does some more research on the topic,” Powell said.
Earlier, Musk called the confirmed transition of at least half of the miners to renewable energy as a condition for the resumption of the sale of Tesla electric cars for the first cryptocurrency.
The company began accepting payments in bitcoin in March 2021, but in May it suspended sales for cryptocurrency, explaining the decision with concerns about the environmental friendliness of mining.
Recall that the founder and head of the BTC.TOP pool, Jiang Zhuer, in response to Musk’s statement, said that as a result of the recent prohibitive measures of the Chinese authorities in relation to mining, the share of renewable sources exceeded 50% in the energy consumption of the industry.
