Just 17 new deaths in 24 hours in Britain, over 5,000 new cases

The United Kingdom announced today 17 deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, the lowest report in about six months, based on official data.

According to the data of the health authorities, the deaths in the last seven days have decreased by 42% compared to the previous week.

Although deaths are dropping dramatically, new cases remain stable at around 5-6,000 daily. Today 5,342 new infections were announced.

Britain counts to date 126,155 of the deadCovid-19 (fifth in the world in terms of deaths) but the rapid start of vaccinations helped it recover from the second wave of the pandemic. Official figures show that 28 million people have received the first dose of the vaccine and 2.3 million have received the second dose.

The situation in Italy is in the “red”

The last twenty-four hours, in Italy 13,846 new cases of coronavirus were recorded and 386 people lost their lives. In total, 169,196 diagnostic tests were performed, 8.1% of which were positive. Yesterday, the corresponding percentage was 7.2%.

In the last twenty-four hours the incidents were 20,159, with 300 dead. As every weekend, however, the tests done in the last two days are much less than the rest of the week.

Since the beginning of the Covid-19 epidemic, there have been 3,400,877 infections in the country and 105,328 patients have died. In Italy’s intensive care units today there are 62 more coronavirus patients than yesterday, while in hospital wards there are 565 more.

At the same time, according to the Italian media, the cases of patients admitted to hospitals with severe symptoms of the virus have increased. At this stage, in Italy 42% of the beds of the pulmonology clinics and hospitals of infectious diseases are filled with patients infected with coronavirus, while in the ICU it is a total of 38%.

In nursing homes, data from Italian regions show that mass vaccination of the elderly has begun to produce positive results: in recent weeks there has been a decrease in cases, but also in deaths from Covid-19.

In the region of Lombardy with capital Milan, finally, after extensive problems and delays in the operation of the service that alerts citizens who are in line to be vaccinated, today it was decided that they will undertake the whole process, from here to hereinafter referred to as the Italian Post.

France

The number of new cases of COVID-19 in France has risen even more since the start of the third Lockdown on the weekend and the number of patients in intensive care units reached a new four-month high, according to data from the Ministry of Health.

French health authorities recorded 15,792 new cases of coronavirus today, more than double the 6,471 reported last Monday, and today is the highest number since the second wave peaked in early November.

The number of infections on Mondays is usually a fraction of those recorded on other days due to the lack of diagnostic tests and reports on the weekends.

The number of patients in COVID-19 intensive care units increased by 142, the largest daily increase this year, to a new high for 2021, at 4,548 patients. During the second lockdown, the largest number of 4,919 patients in the ICU was recorded in mid-November.

The new cases increase the total number of reported infections in France since the beginning of the pandemic to 4.29 million. These represent an increase of more than 5% from week to week, the 14th consecutive increase in the weekly rate, which was less than 4% on March 9.

The country currently has almost 6.2 million citizens who have received one dose of vaccine, of whom 2.4 million have been vaccinated with both doses. The government aims to provide the first 10 million installments by mid-April.

The vaccination campaign has helped drastically reduce deaths in nursing homes, but nearly 2,000 people still died last week. France also recorded 343 new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths from Covid-19 to 92,621.
