K. Mitsotakis: Igoumenitsa is the second largest port, we will make it even bigger, even better

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the city and port of Igoumenitsa, where projects are underway for the completion of the New Limenas.

The Prime Minister was informed about the course of execution of the works, which primarily concern the formation of the onshore part of the Port and are scheduled to be completed in 2023.

“We are talking about the second largest port in western Greece and I am particularly happy because the investments have progressed at great speed and are now being completed – as I have been informed – within the next year for a full commercial, passenger port”, said Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The projects are part of the wider plan to increase the serviced routes, the safe movement of goods and the better service of the passenger public, since Igoumenitsa is one of the two major gateways of Greece to the west, it has joined the main network of trans-European transport networks and is a port of international interest”.

The Prime Minister then visited the terminal for the passenger public, where he was informed about the port’s prospects and its operation by the president of the Igoumenitsa port organization Regina Dilaveris and the managing director Athanasios Porphyris, while he had the opportunity to talk with port officers who serve there.

“It’s not time for many words. It’s time for projects. I came to inspect the port, the 3rd phase, which will be completed – as we promised – within the next year. Igoumenitsa is the second largest port, we will still do it bigger, even better, for the benefit not only of the local community but of all of northern Greece,” the prime minister then noted, during a conversation he had with citizens in the city.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis also highlighted the multifaceted support that the state provides to society in the face of exogenous international crises.

“We support all our fellow citizens who are in need. Today I announced that we will double the budget for the “Tourism for All” program, so that our fellow citizens who cannot take some days off can also go away for some days and to rest. We provide the same support to the Greek society in terms of electricity prices. We support our farmers, we support our livestock farmers. And especially for livestock farmers, expect additional announcements which will be made very soon because we know how big the pressure on Greek livestock farming”, he stressed.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy Yiannis Plakiotakis, the Deputy Minister responsible for infrastructure Giorgos Karagiannis, the Deputy Minister responsible for the Common Agricultural Policy Giorgos Stylios, the Secretary General of Ports, Port Policy and Maritime Investments Evangelos Kyriazopoulos, the MP for Thesprotia of Nea of Democracy Vassilis Yogiakas, the ND MP for Corfu Stefanos Gikas, the ND MPs for Ioannina Stavros Kalogiannis and Maria Kefala, the mayor of Igoumenitsa Ioannis Lolos and the mayor of Filiaton Spyridon Pappas and the secretary of the political committee of the ND, Pavlos Marinakis.
