Kayky Brito run over: Passenger says driver was at “quiet” speed

The passenger who was in the car that ran over actor Kayky Brito, in the early hours of Saturday (2nd), in Rio de Janeiro, gave a statement to the police this Monday (4th).

She stated that the app driver drove at a “quiet” speed, and behaved prudently throughout the journey.

In an interview with CNN the delegate of the 16th Police Station of Rio de Janeiro, Ângelo Lages, explained that the actor was at Quiosque Dona Maria, at post 6, on Barra beach, with actor Bruno De Luca and other friends.

Kayky went to get some belongings in his car and, on returning to the kiosk, he was run over on Avenida Lucio Costa, at number 4700, around 1 am. He is hospitalized in serious condition at Hospital Copa D’or, sedated and breathing with the help of machines, according to the latest medical bulletin.

According to Lages, the car, a Fiat Argo, belonged to an app driver who took a passenger who gave a statement, with a baby, from Recreio dos Bandeirantes to Barra da Tijuca. The driver tried to swerve into the right lane, but failed.

The car involved in the accident with Kayky Brito has already been examined and released to the driver. According to delegate Ângelo Lages, holder of the 16th DP (Barra), the driver used to record the races with his cell phone, these images have already been delivered by the defense and are being analyzed by the police.

The State Secretariat of Military Police reported that police officers from the 31st BPM responded to the incident. The case was registered in the 16th PD as culpable bodily injury, when there is no intention.

“The driver was taken to the 16th DP and to the IML to carry out a blood alcohol test, which was negative for drinking alcohol,” the PM said in a note.
