Keep an eye on the sky: there are five planets aligned

Five planets aligned, a show not always seen in the sky comes this evening. «In the west, at sunset, the sky is setting up an interesting sequence of planets, which particularly involves Jupiter, Venus and Mars, already clearly visible, and then Uranus who sees Venus prospectively approaching his position, while Mercury which is slowly emerging from the afterglow of the sun after sunset,” he explains Gianluca Masiscientific director of the Virtual Telescope.

All planets are visible to the naked eye except Uranus, however, binoculars are enough to observe it. It starts at sunset, but you need an unobstructed view of the horizon and a clear sky. «Only on March 27 will Mercury, freed from the solar flare, be clearly visible».

Aligned planets appear in a strip of sky next to the crescent moon. The first planet to appear is Jupiter with Mercury, one hour after sunset. Venus is the brightest planet of the group and is close to the area of the sky where Uranus can also be seen only with binoculars. This planet is Mars, recognizable by its red color, it is among the stars of the constellation of Taurus.

The planets are not in a straight line from the sun’s perspective, but this is a chance to see them all at the same time. There was one in June 2022. The next true alignment is expected in 2040.
