Kevin Bacon, 65 fulfilled his promise to return to his high school in Utah, in the United States, where his iconic 1984 film “Footloose” was filmed .
Bacon showed up at Payson High School on Saturday (20), months after the school students launch the #BacontoPayson campaign on the social networks. As part of the effort, students recreated movie scenes and choreographed videos in hopes of getting the actor's attention so he could appear at the school's prom.
“When I first heard about this Bacon to Payson thing, I thought, 'Wow, this is crazy.' But you were all tireless “, Bacon said in his speech on the school football field, according to ABC7. “You convinced me.” Payson High School will relocate at the end of the school year .
Bacon said he appreciated the student's commitment. As part of the effort to bring Bacon back to campus, they committed to creating 5,000 essential resource kits to help his Sixdegrees.org foundation, which benefits underserved and under-resourced communities. The organization aims to package and distribute up to 40,000 kits as part of the “Footloose40” initiative.
In his speech, Bacon thanked the students for “turning what could have been just a movie star coming back for a pat on the back into something really positive.” Bacon received an honorary diploma from Payson High School, posed for photos with students and even visited his locker during the visit, according to a video posted to Bacon's Stories on Saturday.
“Footloose” was released in 1984 and starred Bacon as a teenager who moves to a small town that bans dancing, a measure he works to overturn. The film culminates at a prom, which after 40 years still seems like the place to let loose.
