Keyboard cursor and other Apple Watch innovations: what’s new in watchOS 8

Today, June 7, during the WWDC 2021 presentation, Apple representatives officially introduced watchOS 8 – the operating system for the Apple Watch smartwatch. At the very beginning of the presentation, the emphasis was on the Health application – an interesting meditation mode appeared, new training modes for tracking activity in Apple Fintess + (not available in Russia), plus the watch began to track the user’s sleep in more detail. For example, the device can now track a person’s breathing rate while sleeping, notifying the user if he is breathing too much for hours, or vice versa.

Also, a new dial format has appeared, when the best portrait is installed on the title picture (it is not reported how the system will determine the quality of the portrait) from the user’s gallery on the iPhone, and the Photo application has been significantly improved – now it contains more information. And watchOS 8 also brings a keyboard enhancement to the Scribble feature, which was first introduced last year. This technology allows handwriting recognition, that is, the user can draw text on the watch screen, and it will be automatically converted into digital text. True, this function does not work in Russia either.
