Kia unveils EV9 concept with steering wheel, 27-inch display and 2022 launch

Today, November 18, Kia unveiled its EV9 flagship electric crossover concept at the Los Angeles Auto Show, which is built on the scalable Electric-Global Modular Platform (built by Hyundai to design electric vehicles). Unfortunately, the manufacturer did not talk about the technical characteristics of this crossover – it is only known that the power reserve of the novelty is 480 kilometers, recharging from 10 to 80% takes 20 minutes, and there is also a layout with one and two electric motors.

But the manufacturer told a lot of interesting things about the body of the crossover and its interior. For example, on the front side of the car, you can see a rather unusual optics of a complex design – some of the navigation lights are placed in a separate headlight, and the other half are mounted in the body itself. The manufacturer also said that a full-fledged solar battery is located on the hood of the car (no one has specified characteristics or power), and roof rails are installed that can “drive in” into the body to reduce resistance to the oncoming wind flow. It was also decided to abandon conventional rear-view mirrors – instead of them, special cameras were installed.

The crossover also received a huge panoramic roof, and in the rear you can see Y-shaped brake lights and an impressive bumper volume. Inside, the car attracts attention with a large 27-inch touchscreen display, which is both a digital dashboard and a display of the multimedia system. Here you can see the steering wheel, which replaced the usual steering wheel – a similar solution can be seen in the new Tesla (and the car owners did not really like this steering wheel because of the non-standard grip when cornering). In addition, the car’s interior can be turned into a living room at the touch of a button.

In this case, the front row seats swivel inward, and the rear seats fold down, turning into a table. The solution is rather strange and was implemented, most likely, just for show. But the most interesting thing about the Kia EV9 is that the manufacturer is seriously talking about a possible release next year – the production car, of course, will lose an impressive set of chips presented in the concept, but the final result will be very similar to the current presentation.
