Kim Kardashian to reevaluate relationship with Balenciaga after use of children in advertising

Kim Kardashian says she is “re-evaluating” her working relationship with Balenciaga after the luxury fashion house featured children cuddling up to teddy bears dressed in sadomasochism gear in its latest ad campaign.

The founder of Skims and star of her own reality show, who has been an ambassador for the brand, broke her silence on Sunday (27) after receiving a barrage of messages from fans and commentators urging her to denounce the brand.

In comments posted on her social media, Kardashian said she waited to speak “not because I wasn’t disgusted and outraged by recent Balenciaga campaigns, but because I wanted an opportunity to speak with his team to understand for myself how this could have happened.” .”

She went on to say that, as a mother, she was “shaken by the disturbing images”.

“Children’s safety must be held in the highest regard and any attempt to normalize child abuse of any kind should have no place in our society, period,” she told her 74.2 million Twitter followers on Sunday.
“I appreciate the removal of Balenciaga from the campaigns and the apology. In speaking with them, I believe they understand the gravity of the problem and will take the necessary steps to ensure that this never happens again,” Kim said.
The celebrity, who wore a Balenciaga ensemble that concealed her identity to the 2021 Met Gala, was among the many celebrities cast in the Balenciaga haute couture show during Paris Fashion Week in July. The season finale of “The Kardashians” on Thursday (the 24th) focused on her walk on the Balenciaga show.
On Sunday, she addressed her future with Balenciaga in a blog post.
“I am currently re-evaluating my relationship with the brand, basing it on their willingness to accept responsibility for something that should never have happened in the first place – and the actions I hope to see them take to protect children,” he stated.

Kim’s statement comes days after the company pulled the controversial campaign, shot by photographer Gabriele Galimberti and part of a project called “Toy Stories”, and posted an apology on its Instagram page.

“We sincerely apologize for any offense our holiday campaign may have caused,” the statement said.

“Our stuffed tote bags should not have been featured with children in this campaign. We immediately removed the campaign from all platforms.”

Galimberti told CNN in a statement on Wednesday (23) that the direction and filming of the “Toy Stories” campaign was out of their hands, claiming that they “did not have the right in any way to choose the products, nor the models, nor the combination thereof. ”

Balenciaga released yet another statement on Instagram apologizing for displaying “disturbing documents” after a separate campaign featuring documents from a US Supreme Court case related to child pornography laws went viral. The company added that it plans to take “legal action against the parties responsible for creating the set and including unapproved items.”

Galimberti said he had “no connection with the photo where a document from the Federal Supreme Court appears”.

Last month, Balenciaga severed ties with Kardashian’s ex-husband, rapper Kanye West, amid ongoing fallout from his anti-Semitic and controversial comments.

THE CNN reached out to Kering, Balenciaga’s parent company, and Kardashian’s reps for further comment.
