KINAL: The debate on the air due to Papandreou disagreements – At the table a telematch with only the five

Involvement is observed with the debate of the internal party elections in the Movement for Change, according to the Thetoc.gr. Despite the fact that five candidates have agreed in almost all of them on the terms of its conduct (Androulakis, Loverdos, Christidis, Geroulanos, Kastanidis), nevertheless the side of George Papandreou has submitted its own proposal, disagreeing on several points with the others. .

The basic proposal is broadly based on the model of KINAL’s first elections in 2017 and provides for two televisions on ERT, one on October 22 on ERT1 and one on the 29th of the month on ERT3 with representatives from regional media. Among other things, there will be topics on democracy and institutions, the economy, the welfare state, foreign policy, but also on internal party issues, while there will be questions that one candidate will ask the other.

It is noted that a request to host debates has been submitted by private channels, two official (Mega, Action 24) and unofficially SKAI. However, Papandreou’s side appears to be strongly negative about the former prime minister’s participation in these debates.

Given Papandreou’s refusal, the issue is complicated, as ERT may have originally written a letter to the presidential candidates asking for a telematch with “everyone without exception”, but Public Television sources clarify that they will move institutionally and implement only that. what is officially decided by the statutory committee of KINAL (EDEKAP).

This practically means that a plan on the table for a letter from the five directly to ERT, without going through EDEKAP, cannot be institutionally accepted. For this reason, the representatives of the 5 in the committee should pass their position by a majority, with the correlations being marginal.

During the day, however, it is possible to clarify the issue. Experienced party officials consider it possible to hold the debates without Papandreou’s presence, either on ERT or – certainly – on private channels.

What the Papandreou side is asking for

It is recalled that the former Prime Minister has proposed holding three debates with the following thematic discussions:

1. Fair transition to the new productive model – Green Development

2. Challenges for Democracy and institutions today.

3. Welfare State and Modern Social Democracy

As stated in the relevant proposal, “we propose that the discussions be conducted using the internet and live television and with sufficient response time for all candidates (4 ‘+ 4’ + 1 ‘- introductory position, deuterology and closing, respectively) , so that each important topic can be discussed in detail in sufficient time, devoting 75-90 minutes to each topic “.

In other words, Papandreou’s side rejects the planned answers of 1-1.5 minutes, as well as the questions that one candidate will address to the other, while there are particular objections to the existence of a accusation for internal party members.

“Greek society, faced with the fourth wave of pandemics and the growing social and economic problems, wants to hear our positions on the hot issues that affect daily life and its future. Consequently, due to the very different conditions from 2017, “It is not appropriate to choose a debate like the one that took place in that year’s by-elections, nor any form that refers to a reality show,” said the former prime minister.

It is noted that in the first meeting of EDEKAP, tension prevailed with G. Papandreou’s representative, Efi Halatsi, as the main person, while yesterday a second meeting was scheduled, which was canceled at the last minute by the former prime minister, causing intense dissatisfaction among the other candidates.

Spikes and nails

The other five candidates, although publicly keeping a low profile – except on the side of Loverdos – leave points against Mr. Papandreou, saying that all this is pretentious, as he does not really want to participate equally in a debate with the others.

Some speak of “princely perceptions”, while others argue that Mr. Papandreou does not want to answer questions from journalists or fellow candidates, e.g. for the debts of PASOK, for whether he will return to PASOK leaving KIDISO, for Kastelorizo and the Memoranda, etc.

“Is there anyone who has a different opinion on the Memoranda?”, An executive wonders meaningfully close to the former prime minister, emphasizing that “there should be a political discussion and not a reality show or catwalk. This does not help either the unity or the perspective of the party. “. He even adds that people are interested in everyday issues and not how many vice presidents the party will have or if it will be called PASOK. From the staff of Mr. Papandreou, they also express a complaint that in essence their own proposal has not been discussed in EDEKAP.

As for the debates on the private channels, they remind that Fofi Gennimata did not go to the debate of Action 24 either.

Androulaki Peaks: The proposal for parallel monologues from home is a surprise

They welcomed Papandreou’s insistence on the Androulaki staff with dissatisfaction. MEP circles note with meaning that “the proposal of parallel digital monologues, without clear rules, with each candidate participating from home is surprising. Conditions that degrade the whole process, and do not facilitate those who want to watch a live debate, as was done successfully in 2017 “.

They also emphasize that “the way of conducting the televised confrontations that had been followed in the previous internal party elections of 2017 under the auspices of the Alivizatou commission had contributed to the success of the whole process. .

In addition, they conclude that, “for this reason we proposed to follow the same framework, with 2 discussions in the first round between all candidates and 1 among the first 2 in view of the second round, so that all candidates have the opportunity to present their positions for the party and the country “.

What do they say Loverdos – Christidis

“Completely inelegant, sudden and unjustified,” said Spyros Karanikolas, Andreas Loverdos’ spokesman in the media, in an annoyed manner, postponing the debate on the debates, adding that which will be an “open public debate on all issues concerning the citizens and the party, with the possibility of a free live dialogue between the candidates, without any fear”.

Pavlos Christidis asks to follow the model of 2017, proposing three thematic cycles (democracy-institutions, foreign policy, internal party), to be interactive with the candidates standing and questions between them, as well as to be the woman moderator of the discussion.
