The patient had been complaining for many days that his stomach was aching. He was taken to the University Gastroenterology Clinic in Pristina last week, where doctors found a Nokia phone in his stomach.
«The 33-year-old prisoner swallowed a small phone but we managed to remove it“, Said gastroenterologist Skender Telakou. However, he did not have to undergo surgery, as they were able to remove the endoscopy phone, disassembled into three pieces.
The detainee then explained to doctors that the phone had been in his stomach for four days.
Dr. Telakou stressed that doctors had to pay special attention to the phone’s battery and the possible leakage of corrosive liquid. “It was like walking in a minefield, but everything went well,” he said.
The phone, a Nokia 3310 launched at the beginning of the last decade, was handed over to the police. It is unknown how it was found in the detainee’s hands (and stomach), but his doctors suspect that he wanted to use it to communicate, illegally, through the prison.
