Kyiv denounces ‘two-speed response’ by ‘some capitals’ in its bid to join EU

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba today denounced the “two-speed confrontation” by “some capitals” regarding his country’s accession to the EU.

“The strategic doubt about Ukraine’s European perspective that some EU capitals have adopted in recent years has failed and must end,” Kuleba said on Twitter, referring to a “two-speed confrontation” that “hurts Ukrainians.”

Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Solz said he was not in favor of Ukraine joining the EU quickly.

“Failure to shorten Ukraine’s path to EU membership is a matter of justice for the six Western Balkan countries, which have been seeking to join the European bloc for years,” Soltz told the Bundestag.

The French president “Emanuel Marcon is right to emphasize that the accession process is not a matter of a few weeks or years,” he added.

In a speech on the occasion of Europe Day on May 9, Macron stressed that Ukraine was “already a member of the heart of our union.” However, he added that the EU accession process “takes many years, in fact many decades”.
