LADA and “Chinese” occupied more than 60% of the Russian car market

Sales of new cars in Russia, especially premium models, continue to fall compared to last year, while the popularity of Chinese brands is growing. The executive director of the analytical agency “AUTOSTAT” Sergey Udalov spoke about this within the framework of “AUTOSTAT Operativka”.

According to the results of August, as reported in AUTOSTAT, the mass segment of the Russian car market decreased by 60%, and the premium class segment – by 90%. If a year ago premium models accounted for 9-11% of sales, now it is only 3.1%.

At the same time, thanks to the withdrawal of many Western auto brands from the Russian market, LADA and the Chinese managed to increase their share. So, in August, the share of the domestic automaker reached 37%, and Chinese automakers now control a total of 26% of the domestic market, while in August 2021 this figure was only 8%. According to analysts, this is a clear evidence of the current trend in the Russian market for new cars.

As for European and Korean brands, they are now showing a serious decline in sales. In fact, now their activity in Russia is reduced to the “additional collection” of the remaining car kits and the import of running models.

The domestic LADA Granta remains the leader of the Russian car market for a month in a row. In second place in sales is the Haval Jolion crossover from China, whose production is localized in Russia.
